About the FCC ID search...

 The FCC ID search is used for finding the manufacturer of unmarked hardware. The first 3 digits are the manufacturer code, the rest being a product code. Since the FCC ID search isn't going to provide much of anything useful (at least to a person on a driver search) there's really not much point in using anything other than the first 3 digits.
